Welcoming Your Child to Little Bam Bams.

A child starting a new setting for the first time needs lots of care and attention. To ensure your children settle quickly, Staff at Little Bam Bams will work close with parents to help settle them into our environment. Children must feel safe and secure to enable them to play and develop.

  • Children need to be confident that their parent/carer will return at the end of their session. In order to achieve this, we will encourage the following: –

    • Encourage parents/carers to bring their child along to their show around.
    • Encourage the parents to separate from their child for brief periods at first using the available settling in periods, which can be built up to longer absences until the child is ready to be left for a whole session.
    • For their first induction session (30 minutes), parents can drop their child in and wait in the reception area, if the child becomes upset then the parents are welcome to come in and settle them.
    • At some point children may have to be left even when distressed
    • In such cases children will be given continual support by staff, if a child is unable to settle, the parent/carer will be contacted.
    • Parents/carers are welcome to telephone at any time to enquire about their child.
    • Parents/carers who are anxious about their child are to be supported and given reassurance and information about their child’s activities and welfare.
    • Children develop at different rates and parents/carers should not be discouraged if their child does not settle as quickly as others.
    • Parents/carers are to be given all necessary reassurance and support during this time. Parents/carers will be required to complete an ‘All about me’ form before leaving their child for the first time. This includes information such as the child’s home life, close family, pets, child’s favourite activities, favourite foods, dislikes in food, a little about their routine, things children are good at and things they may need support with. The more information given about your child, the easier it will be for them to settle in. Feedback will always be given on your child’s progress when settling in.
    • The Famly app will be completed as much as possible with updates about children’s settling in sessions.
